Groundwater Slug & Pumping Test Analysis Suite BETA

A pbdot member tool — inverse estimation of K, T, S/Sy from field data; distance–drawdown composites; forward cone-of-depression predictions. Single file, fully offline, nothing leaves your machine.

Analysis settings

Pick a unit system and every input and result on every tab carries the label automatically, e.g. T, K, Q, lengths in , times in . The picker only relabels — it never converts numbers: enter raw values in exactly that system (S and Sy are dimensionless).

Well geometry & discharge

Pumping schedule (t = 0 is test start)

Each row: time from start, discharge Q (sign = rate; a stop is Q = 0). Recovery is produced automatically by superposition.

Wells & data records

Import what you already have — drop one or several files at once; each is classified and shown in a reviewable plan:

  • Wells spreadsheet — identifier, x/y, role, screened interval (screen top/bottom or length), casing & borehole radius, static head. Geometry is stored per well.
  • Slug-test file — one time/head series; the test well is the observed well (identity from tab or file name; role set to slugged).
  • Pumping-test workbook — one tab per well with drawdown over time; labels come from tab names and the column mapping is learned once, then adopted across every tab. Import all tabs in one pass.

template .xlsx follows these conventions exactly; legacy .xls — re-save as .xlsx. Native multi-tab .xlsx, .csv and .txt are read offline; nothing leaves this machine.

Private by design: every computation runs in this page. There are no accounts, no network calls, and no data transmission — the file works offline once saved.

Slug test analysis

Analyzes H/H0 vs log t under Hvorslev (1951), Bouwer–Rice (1976) and Cooper–Bredehoeft–Papadopulos (1967). Fit windows are set per well in Setup.

Pumping test analysis (constant discharge fits use the schedule's Q at test start)

Theis fits use observation-well data; fitting pumping-well data carries wellbore-storage error (caution shown). Applicability: u = r²S/(4Tt) ≤ 0.05 is checked across the Cooper–Jacob window and flagged.

Distance–drawdown composite

Drawdown vs log r across observation wells at the chosen time, with a fitted straight line: T = 2.3Q/(2πΔs), r0 from the intercept, S = 2.25Tt/r0². Per-well Cooper–Jacob T is tabulated as a consistency check; outliers are flagged.

Forward ("what-if") mode — a standalone what-if tool driven by T and S

Representative starting points (typed into T and S, in your declared units):

Forward superposition over the pumping schedule: s(r,t) = (1/4πT) Σj ΔQj W(r²S/[4T(t−tj)]) for t > tj; Q from the pumping schedule. Unconfined aquifers use the late-time Theis equivalent (T paired with Sy).

Predicted snapshots — type exactly three targets (blank boxes fall back to the observation-well distances / 1%, 10%, 50% of the schedule end)

Numbers only, one value per box — misunderstood rows are skipped with a note below the plots.

Embedded validation suite

Defaults: T and K within 1% relative; S/Sy within 2% unless stated; near-well → far-well forward check normalized RMS ≤ 5% of max observed drawdown.
Provenance flags. quoted values come directly from pinned references (e.g. Lohman's W(u) tables). derived items are re-derived here and numerically cross-checked (formulas identical to the published ones; identities verified in-suite). reconstruction marks a family whose mid-range curve shape was reconstructed from published descriptions rather than quoted digit-for-digit — see Method Notes for exactly which parts.
